Saving Noah

Possible spoiler alert!!!
I read Saving Noah by
Lucinda Berry earlier this
month and I can not get that
book out of my head. I felt so
bad for Noah. Don't get me
wrong, what he did was horrible,
but he just felt like he could not
change and he wanted to so badly.
I felt like he deserved so much better than that bleak prognosis that he was given. I thought that might
be the worst of it but then the
plot twist at the end. Oh my
goodness.
I'm looking for books that give
me a similar feeling to this. I want
a book that just makes me feel for
the person in the story so send me
any recommendations.

5 Myths About Disability

Here are 5 myths that you might have heard about disability:

1) We can't be independent. We can all be independent in our own unique way. It looks different for each individual. Some live on their own, some are able to feed themselves, some can drive, some know how to do a daily routine well, etc., and while some of these may seem minor to you, its a HUGE accomplishment for us. Especially when we have been told so many times we can't.

2) We can't work:

Again this ties in to the whole independence thing. Some of us work and some rely solely on government assistance and that's OK!

3) We don't get married and/or become parents: There are a lot of disabled people who are happily married and have kids. It might be a bit harder for them but I'm sure it helps to have a spouse who is involved.

4) We like to be called inspirational for everything: PLEASE don't call us inspirational for doing basic every day things. Save those compliments for when you see us handling a difficult situation well.

5) We only want to date other disabled people: Not the case. For a long time I never wanted to date a disabled man. I was afraid of people pitying me even more, because let's face it. Often you feel like you're on display with the stares you get.

There you have it. 5 myths you may not have thought about regarding disabled people. Got any more to add?

It's Not Fair

 It's not fair that I won't get

to have you at my wedding.

I'm glad you're not suffering

anymore, but it's not fair.

Its not fair that I won't be able

to make you grandparents like

all the others did. I'm glad that

you got to enjoy being grandparents

to their kids, but its not fair.

It's not fair that I didn't get to show

you my first apartment. I know you'd

be proud of me, but its not fair.

Its not fair that I had to experience

so many of my "firsts" without you

and even though I know you're no

longer suffering, its still. Not. Fair.

Why Do We Mourn A Miscarried Baby, But Not An Aborted One?

When a woman aborts a baby why don't the doctors treat it as if she lost a baby? Women miscarry when they're just as far along as women who have abortions, and yet we mourn the loss of one and celebrate the loss of the other. One is treated like the human being that it is and the other is treated like trash. Another question. Why do women who have abortions later on grieve if it was just "a clump of cells"?

Why Are Doctors Still Asking This?

Why is the first, or at least one of the first questions a doctor asks a pregnant mother when they find out the baby will be born with a disability "do you want to terminate this pregnancy"? Are they forgetting that they are killing someone if that happens? Did they forget about the hippocratic oath they took? When will abortion be considered murder? Oh wait! NEVER! Did you notice that the word hippocratic sounds a whole lot like another word? Hypocrite! I get that for reasons such as an ectopic pregnancy it needs to be terminated, but that's very rare. Getting an abortion isn't showing mercy. What if the doctors killed all the terminal patients in your local hospital because outside of a miracle they're going to die anyway? I live with a disability and while it has it's challenges, it's mainly people who make my life hard by assuming I'm incapable of doing stuff. People honestly have more compassion for animals than they do for disabled babies that haven't been born yet. They'll go to the ends of the earth to petition for all animals in shelters to find homes and they'll give their last penny to make sure their precious pet gets the healthcare they need. Let's start petitioning for disabled babies to see the light of day.

What's This World Coming To?

Do you think it's fair that people have so much choice these days? You don't like your gender? Well, change it. Worse yet, this is being pushed on the younger generation. Our children, nieces and nephews and grandchildren are being taught that the way God made them isn't good enough.

Disability is also being romanticized. Some people seriously think they were meant to be disabled, and they proceed to make life altering decisions with their bodies. What about those of us that were born with a disability? What about our choices? We don't have any! I was born with a split in my spine and therefore am partially paralyzed. Is there a surgery that will repair all the nerve damage in my spine and give me the ability to walk? No there isn't! So tell me, why should everyone else be given the choice to destroy their bodies because of how they feel? There's no going back afterwards. So many people are coming forward now saying that they regret changing their genders because they were allowed to believe that they were born in the wrong body. Now they have to suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives. They will never be biological parents because that part of their anatomy has been destroyed. The term mother is to be erased from our vocabulary to be inclusive even though if it weren't for our mothers none of us would be here. And for what? To make men who think they are women comfortable? I say no to this! We were told that men who pretend to be women would never sexually assault others, but that is exactly what has been happening. We need to speak up about this foolishness. Children are at risk here. Pretty soon there will be no more children because people will lose their ability to reproduce. It's time to stand up for truth.

Do You Believe What God Says About You?

The devil believes everything God says about you. It's time for you to believe it too.
